A DARK PROCEDURAL COMEDY
Rent a Friend follows Fran, the newest hire at Friend inDeed, an app serving lonely, needy, high-strung New Yorkers by providing them temporary friendship.
Conan O'Brien (#ConanJapan), The Atlantic, Buzzfeed, The New Yorker: all of these publications and media entities have helped increase public awareness of the friend and family rental industry, which is a very real industry in Japan...and to a certain extent, the US.
Created by Emily Lowinger and Sophie Worm, this series intends to convey the trials and tribulations of Fran's job with the ever present question: what happens when friendship is a commodity?
Sophie's background is in graphics & editing. She studied animation at California College of the Arts and has since worked for some of New York's top post-production houses. When she's not cutting spots for web & TV, you can probably find her creating breathtaking illustrations.
Emily's background is in performance and comedic writing. After attending a performing arts high school, she went on to study French literature because reading in English was too easy. She studied at UCB and has performed stand up, improv & sketch comedy all over New York City. In 2014 she wrote her own show, Slam Up, which had over 100 performances across the US & Canada.
